Coffee is a difficult crop to manage, prone to pests and diseases that are increasingly harmful due to increased climate change and extreme weather events. More than 12.5 million smallholder farmers are impacted by climate change. Farmers can overcome this, but they need your help.

Climate Smart Coffee pays for climate insurance coverage and climate smart agricultural advice for farmers. 90% of every dollar goes directly to farmers for services and insurance. A contribution to Climate Smart Coffee is a contribution towards a more resilient future for coffee farmers, their families, you, and the planet.

Roasters displaying the Climate Smart Coffee label have contributed 5% more for the coffee they buy from farmers to make this happen.

The Climate Smart Coffee Label

How the Program Works

Coffee farmers sign up to Climate Smart Coffee in their country, and Roasters commit to support with a 5% contribution. The in-country team at Climate Smart Coffee makes sure its climate tools are given to farmers and that the coffee is being grown sustainably. Committed coffee roasters access the verified sustainability data on the platform and promote the work by sharing information and labeling their roasted coffee.

Climate Risks Assessed

Using Satellite Data and Machine Learning, changes in climate and the risk associated with it are analyzed and used.

Crop Insurance

Bespoke crop insurance is designed for smallholder coffee farmers, underwritten by insurance companies and bring to market.

Mobile Advisory

AI-powered mobile messages direct to farmers advising on unexpected weather patterns and the agronomy tips to navigate the changes.

Roasters that have contributed to Climate Smart Coffee can display the label at their shop, in their online store or on their bags.

Exilior helps support more than 200 farmers in a cooperative in Kenya, called Rui Ruiru. Through their support and purchase of Rui Ruiru green coffee these Kenyan farmers have insurance coverage protecting them in case of a climate incident, and advising to help them adapt to climate change and create sustainable farming practices.
